How to use Atrovent Spray:

Use Atrovent Spray as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • An extra patient leaflet is available with Atrovent Spray. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information.
  • Prime the pump before the first use by pointing the bottle upright and away from your eyes and spraying 7 times.
  • If the pump is not used for more than 24 hours, prime again by spraying 2 times. If the pump is not used for more than seven days, prime again by spraying 7 sprays.
  • Before using, blow your nose gently if necessary. Close one nostril by gently placing your finger against the side of your nose. Tilt your head slightly forward and, keeping the bottle upright, insert the nasal tip into the other nostril. Point the tip toward the back and outer side of the nose.
  • Press firmly and quickly upwards with your thumb at the base of the bottle while holding the white “shoulders” of the pump between your index and middle fingers. After each spray, sniff deeply and breathe out through your mouth.
  • After spraying and removing the bottle, tilt your head backwards for a few seconds to let the spray spread over the back of the nose. Replace the plastic dust cap after each use.
  • If the nasal tip becomes clogged, remove the plastic dust cap and safety clip. Hold the nasal tip under running warm tap water for about a minute. Dry the nasal tip, re-prime the nasal spray pump, and replace the dust cap and safety clip.
  • If you miss a dose of Atrovent Spray, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Atrovent Spray.
